University Cultural Complex

The University Cultural Complex (CCU) was inaugurated on November 10, 2008, and has become a singular space and a referent for culture in Puebla. Because of its architectural beauty, it has received acclaim worldwide. In 2011 it placed fourth among 704 architectural projects from 65 countries which competed in the “People’s Choice Award 2011”, an award granted by the European firm Open Buildings of Europe, at the 2011 World Architecture Festival (WFA).

This monumental work is located on vía Atlixcáyotl to the south of Puebla and it has an area of 87,877 m2. The complex has numerous buildings that harbor multiple spaces and venues, an auditorium which seats over 3,000 people, theatre, cinemas, convention center, bookstore, symphony hall and cultural esplanade among others, dedicated to the dissemination of art, culture and science.

Ccu artistic companies

The University Cultural Complex houses four artistic companies: the Folkloric Ballet, the Symphony Orchestra, the Contemporary Dance Company and the Theatre Company, which have played an important part in artistic productions in the area but also, and above all, have been spaces for the projection of the artistic and cultural values of the university and of the region.

Folkloric Ballet. Created 30 years ago, it has a national and international trajectory that has projected the image of this University throughout the country as well as in various countries in America, Europe and Asia.

Symphony Orchestra. The BUAP Symphony Orchestra was formed on March 9, 2005. It is integrated by professional musicians and university students principally from the School of Fine Arts.

Contemporary Dance Company. It was formed in December of 2008 and presents two dance seasons every year with choreographic works which regularly count with the participation of guest choreographers from various countries.
